I've just passed my practical test under the guidance of Lord McArthur. With a bit of luck I've finally managed to come through with it, but it felt great to have my instructor's full support throughout my lessons and practical tests. He's put in so much by coming all the way to Lincoln for this, him living around and covering the Boston area. With a bit of what I would call constructive criticism I've learned to be a better and safer driver than I've ever thought I would and that is all thanks to Lord Malcom McArthur. Date of experience: 04 September 2023

For the last 6 years I had been putting off driving due to being so scared. Malcolm helped me build my confidence with driving, constantly asking how I felt before and after every session. 6 months later I passed with only 4 minors!! Thank you Malcom!

Malcolm is an absolutely amazing instructor. I came to Malcolm having previously done lessons and a couple failed tests before moving house in which I needed to start again. Malcolm had an amazing approach It was both friendly but firm and I always came away having learnt something. All aspects of driving were covered and we always had good plans in place for how we would tackle what I felt was difficult until I reached a level were I was confident and independent. I really appreciate the effort and belief Malcolm had in me which then led me to go onto passing my test with only 4 minors.

Patrick approached me after taking lessons with an instructor before the COVID pandemic. He had previously failed his driving test due to a couple of serious faults and a few minor driver faults. We worked together to address these issues, and I am pleased to say that he passed his test on the first attempt, with only four minor driver faults.

Steve, a lifelong resident of Skegness, achieved an impressive milestone today by passing his driving test with Malcolm School of Motoring. What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that Steve has faced several challenges, including a hospital stay. He began his journey as a complete novice earlier this year but, despite being admitted three-quarters of the way through his training, he persevered and resumed lessons once he returned home. Just seven weeks later, he passed his test on his first attempt with only three driver faults. A massive congratulations to Steve on this outstanding achievement!

Julie Stuarts Mum Malcolm is a lovely man and a great driving instructor. Lots of communication with me (parent) whilst teaching my son who passed first time. My son who was a little anxious to start with was put at ease and really enjoyed learning with Malcolm.
StuartStuart, an 18-year-old, arrived feeling quite nervous. However, his dedication and hard work paid off as he passed on his first attempt, with just one driver fault.

PaulPaul, an experienced driver, sought to become a more aware and safer driver. Over the years, he had developed quite a few bad habits, but with determination and around 10 hours of the Pass Plus course, he successfully completed it with flying colours.
John took several lessons prior to a medical assessment supported by Malcolm. He believe these were worthwhile to reach the standard required. The assessment was successful and am now driving again. Thank you Malcolm.

After a year and a half of struggling with my anxiety during driving I was over the moon when I achieved my pass first time. Malcolm was so kind, patient and understanding when we were both unsure whether I would have a good lesson or my anxiety would get the better of me. He never once doubted my driving ability and worked with me until I believed in myself. I can’t thank Malcolm enough, such a kind soul, would recommend him to anyone. Thank you Malcom

Malcolm was a great teacher. As well as the support he gave during lessons, he also provided material to look through at home to further support. This is our second child to have been taught by Malcolm. They have very different personalities and learning styles and Malcolm adapted to suit both their needs.

Learn MoreIf you're looking for manual driving lessons in Skegness, Malcolm School of Motoring provides friendly, patient and professional driving tuition designed around you. I'm Malcolm, a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) providing manual driving lessons in Skegness, Burgh le Marsh and surrounding areas. Whether you're getting behind the wheel for the first time, have already had some driving lessons, or you're returning to driving after a break, your lessons will be planned around your individual ability, experience and confidence. Everyone learns differently, which is why I don't believe in using exactly the same approach with every learner. Lessons are adapted to your progress so that you can develop your skills at a pace that suits you.
Learning in a manual car gives you experience of using the clutch and gears as part of everyday driving. During your lessons, you'll learn how to coordinate the clutch, accelerator and gears smoothly while developing good observation and planning skills. We'll work progressively through the skills needed to become a safe and confident driver. This includes moving off and stopping safely, steering and positioning, changing gears, approaching junctions, meeting and passing other traffic, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and different types of roads. As your experience develops, we'll also work on more complex driving situations and independent driving so that you're comfortable making safe decisions for yourself. The aim isn't simply to teach you routines to pass a driving test. It's to help you understand why you're doing something and how your decisions affect other road users.
Some learners pick up certain skills quickly, while others need more time and practice. That's completely normal. Your lessons will concentrate on the areas where you need the most development rather than spending unnecessary time repeating things you can already do confidently. We'll regularly discuss your progress so you understand what you're doing well and what we need to improve next. As your driving develops, you'll gradually take greater responsibility for planning and making decisions yourself. This helps prepare you not only for the practical driving test but also for driving independently after you've passed.
It's common for learner drivers to feel nervous, particularly during their first few lessons or when encountering unfamiliar situations. My lessons are designed to provide a calm, friendly and supportive learning environment where you can develop confidence without feeling rushed. Mistakes are part of learning to drive. We'll use them constructively to understand what happened, what could have been done differently and how you can deal with a similar situation next time. Over time, the aim is for skills such as observation, anticipation, planning and vehicle control to become increasingly natural.
As your driving skills and confidence develop, your lessons will increasingly focus on helping you reach the standard required for the practical driving test. We'll identify any areas that still need improvement and practise dealing safely and confidently with a variety of roads, junctions, roundabouts and traffic situations. You'll also develop your independent driving, observation, planning and decision-making skills. When appropriate, mock-test-style driving can help you experience what it's like to drive independently under test conditions and identify any areas that need further practice. Passing your driving test is an important achievement, but my aim is to prepare you for more than just the test. I want you to become a safe, confident and responsible driver with the skills and judgement you need for safe driving for life.
